GBS' annual Young Instrumentalist Competition was interrupted just one day before finalists were to audition with Maestro Jacobsen in March 2020.  Those finalists are featured below, and we hope to complete the competition soon.  In the meantime, please enjoy this sampling of the great talent of Connecticut's youth.  You'll see one of these gifted musicians on stage with GBS in 2021-22!

GBS' Emerging Composer Competition for 2020, "Pioneering New Works," was put on hold in March 2020 by the pandemic.  We had received a large number of compositions from all over the U.S., but judging had to be delayed.  In addition, without a firm concert schedule, there was no way to  know how to feature the new compositions in one of our concerts.  We are still at work, though; judging will be scheduled soon.  Because GBS believes in the future of orchestral music, the winner will premiere his / her composition during a concert conducted by the Symphony’s dynamic maestro, Eric Jacobsen, during the 2021-22 GBS season.  This competition embraces Maestro Jacobsen’s goal of premiering new works and his vision of bringing orchestral music to a new generation of classical music fans.

We hope to feature finalists on this page in the near future.

Stay tuned!
